The Fred Tool Holder - Murex Edition is the first leather toolholder piece Kraken has ever made for Blacklist, and it doesn't arrive quietly. White on the outside. Purple underneath. Named for the sea snail that gave the ancient world its only true purple.

The murex is an unremarkable-looking thing - a chalk-white ridged shell you'd step over on the beach. Split it open and there's a single gland that bleeds a dye no one could replicate for three thousand years. It took twelve thousand snails to produce a gram and a half of it. Rome made it law: purple was the emperor's color, and wearing it without the rank was a capital offense. You didn't buy your way into it. You were granted it.

That's the whole piece in one object. Conceria Walpier Hatch Buttero veg-tan in white, textured so fine it reads like linen in the hand. Fold it open and purple croc-stamped veg-tan runs the spine - scaled, deep, and completely hidden until you're the one holding it. Everyone at the green sees the white. Only you see the purple.

Every stitch is hand-sewn - black French saddle stitch, pulled by hand, two needles, one pass at a time, the way it's been done since before anyone thought to speed it up. Edges hand-burnished to a satin close. The Kraken mark is foil-stamped in black on the back, quiet against the white.

Here's the part the murex earns: Tyrian purple didn't fade in sunlight. It deepened. Everything else the ancient world dyed washed out and went gray - the murex went richer with age and exposure. Veg-tan does exactly the same thing. Six months in your bag, the white will warm to bone and honey, the purple will drink down darker, and the piece will look like something you inherited rather than something you ordered.
